Experienced Diesel Mechanic ($30.00-$33.00 per hour)

Rocky Mountain Recycling has been in continuous operation at the corner of 64th and Brighton Blvd. in Commerce City since 1936. We recycle all scrap metal including copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, zinc, aluminum cans, lead batteries, all types of iron, and steel. We are currently looking for a reliable, hardworking Experienced Diesel Mechanic available to work 5 days a week Monday-Friday. This position will require over time during our busy seasons.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The responsibility of the Experienced Diesel Mechanic is to ensure that the vehicles in the fleet are maintained in a proper electro/mechanical and safe standard.


REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Experienced Diesel Mechanic not only does repair work, but also diagnoses the source of a problem and then performs the necessary repairs or coordinates with operations to schedule third party repairs with outside shops. Preventative maintenance and routine repairs are the primary responsibilities of the experienced diesel mechanic. These tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform preventative and unscheduled maintenance on company trucks and trailers.
  • Repairing diesel trucks to include: electrical, transmission, engines, hydraulics, lights, oil changes and other preventative maintenance as required.
  • Work with management to develop Standardized Regular Maintenance Schedules for the RMR Fleet.
  • Mandate and Monitor all DOT Regulations associate to maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Prioritize and schedule the repairs jointly/communicating with the operations department.
  • Routine oil changes, lubrication, fluid changes, battery inspections, electrical system testing, brake inspections and replacement etc.
  • Welding skills to do minor repairs as needed.
  • Repair equipment per schedule and as needed-reviewing Driver Daily Vehicle Reports.
  • Maintain tire inventory-ability to change, replace, mount and dismount tires.
  • Complete required daily paperwork, maintaining maintenance logs of all repairs and maintenance performed and document parts and material usage on all equipment repairs.
  • Have good knowledge of shop equipment, such as, but not limited to, brake equipment, hoists, electrical test equipment, pneumatic hand tools, etc.
  • Work independently and with other team members to complete repairs timely and safely.
  • Personal Protective Equipment is to be used where required.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Purchasing Management:

  • Parts Management & Procurement-work with management to control cost while maintaining adequate parts availability. Purchasing only what is required, limiting the parts inventory to an as need or utilization basis.
  • Provide savings through negotiated vendor pricing.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of maintenance program and cost control.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • 5 years diesel mechanic experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma/GED is required.
  • Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook skills desired.
  • Current DOT certifications as required.

Required:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Need to provide all of your own tools and tool box.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in organization.
  • Ability to work 8-9 hour shifts.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Experience as diesel mechanic with trucks and heavy equipment in the field or accredited technical school.
  • Must have developed skills in strategy based diagnostics, able to utilize diagnostic tools and computers to identify root cause and correction.
  • Professional, upbeat attitude.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to learn.
  • ASE Certifications, knowledge of DOT standards.
  • CDL License preferred.

SUMMARY:

The ideal Experienced Diesel Mechanic is an individual who possesses good diagnostic and repair skills. Has a good sense of priorities with repairs that are necessary to be performed. Performs their duties in a professional manner. Maintains their work area, tools and shop equipment in a clean and functional manner. Follows direction well and is capable of working well with fellow employees and management.

Torch Cutter ($16.00 per hour plus production bonus)

We recycle all types of scrap metal, by preparing it for direct mill consumption, and then shipping it via truck, container and rail to melt shops around the United States and overseas. Our company is now hiring a scrap metal Torch Cutter. We are currently looking for a reliable, hardworking Torch Cutter available to work 5 - 1/2 days a week Monday-Saturday. This position will require over time on a regular basis.


REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cut and size metal with an acetylene/oxygen torch or plasma torch
  • Maintain a clean work area
  • Follow safety policies and safe work procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to:

  • Wear a respirator and personal protective equipment
  • Carry up to 50 lbs for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work outdoors 100% of the time in all weather conditions

REQUIRMENTS:

Must pass a post offer screen including a drug test and a background check.


COMPENSATION:

$16.00 per hour plus production bonus. Employee will be paid $16.00 per hour, plus a variable incentive amount based on tonnage processed. The production bonus will be dependent on the work of a group of employees.
